Academic Development

Students in need of academic development are placed into our student support classrooms. This setting allows for the student to be pulled out of the mainstream class and to be taught in a small class setting. Student support classes are available in language arts and math in the elementary division. The high school division offers classes in English, math and a few of the sciences. This program is designed for any student that is determined to be operating at least 1 year below grade level in language arts and or math. The requirements to be placed in the student support classroom are to be identified with a learning disability through a professional psychological evaluation. In the admissions process this must be present with your child’s application. If your child is accepted, it would be considered to be a one year probation/trial basis in order to see if we can meet your child’s particular needs.

The hope of academic development is that the student will be able progress to the degree that they can move back into mainstream classes after several years. Those students that are not able to transition back to mainstream classes will find that additional student support services are available in the latter years of high school. CCA is not equipped to educate students that are functioning at 3 grade levels or more below the child’s current grade.

Academic Support

Students that are in need of additional support or small group instruction are able to receive academic support. This is accomplished by providing accommodations to the curriculum and assessment. A child is provided with these accommodations after consultation between parent, teacher and the director of student support services. In addition to accommodations these students will continue to work with student support personnel on a weekly basis to keep the student organized and making good use of study times.

Vocational Support

Students at the 11th and 12th grade level of high school that have determined along with their parents that a transition into a vocation after high school would be best are able to be enrolled in a vocational support track. This allows the school to design a schedule that provides the core curriculum and then allows credit to be earned through vocational internships. During the junior year these internships are done within the school setting. During the senior year vocational internship may be done via outside employment.
