Over Fifties Fellowship
The Over 50's Fellowship is composed of both couples and singles over the age of fifty
who meet every Monday evening at 7:30 PM for Bible Study and fellowship. The meetings
usually discontinue during the months of July & August as well as a few weeks during the end of
December. The purpose of the group is to provide spiritual nourishment through Bible Study and
prayer as well as wholesome Christian activity and fellowship. The Scriptures are studied both
topically and by a verse to verse study of Bible books. During the past year the studies have
centered on Bible Prophecy. Opportunity is given for questions and discussion. The group meets
in both the Church Sanctuary & Fellowship Hall. Attendance usually fluctuates between 60 and
90.
Beside the three or four covered dish dinners held yearly in the Fellowship Hall, the
group meets socially from time to time. During the past year the group has traveled to Gettesburg
for a tour of the battlefield, to Lancaster to view the presentation of Daniel in the Living Theater
and to the Byer's manufacturing plant and museum in Chalfont. Banquets are held regularly in
the Spring and during the Christmas season. During the past year Tom Huckel, director of the
Hananeel House, spoke at the one; and Ed Matthews, pastor of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church of
Fox Chase, spoke at the other.
Members participate in various other ministries at Calvary Chapel. They serve as
security guards, ushers, Sunday School teachers and a good number work together weekly each
Friday stuffing the church bulletins for the Sunday services. Others regularly participate in the
visitation of the sick and shut-in. Besides the weekly distribution of a prayer sheet, the group has
its own telephone chain whereby participating members are contacted for concerns that arise
during the week. In addition THE OVER 50'S BULLETIN is sent periodically to all the friends
and members. It contains current events pertaining to the Christian faith as well as Scriptural
articles and other information pertaining to the activities of the fellowship.
